Breaking news is the same everywhere; Europe is sizzling under intense heat. Across the continent, day temperatures remain constantly above 40 degree Celsius and at many places it has reached an alarming level of 43.8 degree Celsius, something unheard of in the history of Europe. Climate experts say this summer has already broken the record of the past one and a half century. They put forward many reasons, everything converging into things like global warming and the omega block.
You can believe it or dismiss it. But there is one thing that cannot be denied, that the Holy Bible had predicted about a certain period in human history when the sun will be permitted to scorch man with its heat. And that time is prophesied as the days preceding the glorious second coming of Jesus Christ. A time when our eternal destiny will be sealed! So let us go straight to the book of Revelations.
‘The fourth angel poured his bowl on the sun, and it was allowed to scorch them with fire; they were scorched by the fierce heat, but they cursed the name of God, who had authority over these plagues, and they did not repent and give him glory’ (Rev 16:8). The angel mentioned here is the fourth of seven angels sent from heaven to execute punishment on mankind, and his bowl is filled with the wrath of God. If the Holy Bible warned us about a plague in the nature of extreme heat in the end times, it will definitely come to pass. Is the heat wave in Europe the beginning of it? We are not sure. But it is a warning to us that such things could happen anytime, because the cup of God’s wrath is already overflowing against a world that is neck-deep immersed in the filth of sin. A generation that does not distinguish between good and bad, many nations calling sin virtue and virtue aberration, and a people driven by dissipation, drunkenness and the worries of this life (Lk 21:34) must expect God’s heavy hand at any time.
Jesus calls us to accept him as Lord and Savior because he is having authority over all these plagues. Remember the heat wave is neither the first nor the last in a series of chastisements God has destined for earth. Jesus calls us to be ‘blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of this crooked and perverse generation, and to shine like stars in the world’ (Phil.2:15). Blessed are those who heed his call to repent, for the time has come.
So instead of blaming it on global warming, let us humble ourselves before God and accept it as a global warning.
