Every year we celebrate the feast of Pentecost. Then what is so special about the Pentecost of 2022? As we know, many preachers and priests across the world have been telling us about the urgency of getting the anointing of the Holy Spirit. They call on us to prayerfully prepare for this great event. Unless the Holy Spirit had convinced them of the urgent necessity of exhorting the faithful about this, they would not have done so.
The days ahead are difficult ones when we will find it hard to discern truth from falsity, because the devil has been greatly successful in presenting what is true as false and what is false as true. And the gift of discernment comes with the Holy Spirit.
John the Apostle had written a verse to contemplate for every Pentecost. But the relevance of this verse is more in the year 2022 because its number is also 20:22. Let us read it.
‘When he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit’ (Jn 20:22).
It is not a call limited to the disciples alone. It is equally applicable to us and we need to prepare ourselves for it with prayer and penance.
Let us pray: ‘ Come, Holy Spirit, and fill us with your wisdom to discern the truth’
